Omega 3s – not just good for your brain

Health | 0 comments

When we think of Omega 3 fatty acids, we tend to think of brain and heart health, eye and skin health, reduced inflammation, and minimizing the risk or effects of age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s.

But did you know they’re also useful in boosting one’s immune system?

LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

The lymphatic system has multiple interrelated functions, one of which is the maintenance of a healthy immune system. It consists of nodes and cells called lymphocytes, whose job it is to move through the body looking for and destroying pathogens – viruses and bacteria. Omega 3s improve the function of these lymphocytes by promoting a healthy cell membrane, enabling cells to hold water and vital nutrients, and to better communicate with each other. The result is a more powerful immune response.*

EPA & DHA DOSAGE

Make sure your Omega 3 supplement contains enough EPA and DHA – the most useful types of Omega 3s. Adults should be looking for 1,000mg of both EPA and DHA. A favourite choice of mine is Genestra’s Super EFA Forte Liquid, which provides 1,500mg EPA and 1,000mg DHA.

The dosage for babies and kids varies by age and weight. Genestra’s Berry EFA Plus combines the two Omega 3s for a total of 875mg.

OMEGA 3s IN FOOD

Further increase your intake of Omega 3s by including the following foods in your weekly diet: salmon, trout, beef, flax seeds, walnuts, chia seeds, hemp seeds and Rawsome Whole Food Meal.

There are so many reasons to make Omega 3s part of your every day!
